On Subaru club trips it is mandatory to carry recovery gear, in the Subaru club we call it a “Penfold Pack”, euphemistically named after one of the club founding members who was always the one armed with recovery gear to fetch others out of trouble.

A “Penfold Pack” comprises:

Something to tow with:

Snatch strap

Something to attach to:

Recovery points on front and rear of vehicle

Something to attach with:

A pair of suitably rated bow shackles to fit your recovery points

Something to dig with:

A shovel, long handle is best

Something to cut with:

Axe or bow saw
